Lines hard-fought last gasp victory at Whilton Mill
Finlay Lines extended his championship points lead after taking the win in the second round of the 2024 WMKC Championship at Whilton Mill in Northamptonshire.
The reigning British Open Champion started heat one from 7th on the grid against a field of 32 other drives in the Rotax Mini (Inter) class in what turned out to be changeable conditions.
Lines took the lead before the end of the opening lap during the wet conditions and stayed ahead to take the heat race win by over five seconds.
Starting from 7th on the grid for heat two, the Synergy Kart driver was up to 3rd place by the end of the first few corners. Involved in a heated battle with his teammates for the podium positions in the early stages, Lines made a last-lap pass for the lead taking the win in the process.
The Maximum Motorsport driver started the Final from pole position and stayed in the lead as the 12-minute +1 lap final got underway.
Despite losing the lead to his teammate momentarily in the closing laps, Lines retook the lead before they encountered traffic. Lines cleared the backmarkers and stayed out front to take his second win of the season.
The Synergy driver extends his lead in the points standings with six rounds left to go.
Round 3 of the 2024 WMKC Championship at Whilton Mill in Northamptonshire takes place on 26th May.
