Double for Depper as Championship Heads to Final Race

An emotional second win in as many races was a blessing for Jack Depper, who has stamped his authority upon his return to the Volkswagen Racing Cup. Starting sixth in the reverse grid proceedings, the Birmingham-based driver continued his perfect run of races at Donington Park.

Andy Wilmot had entered the race as the championship leader, dominating proceedings on the opening lap to take the lead ahead of the charging Josh Coggan. This threat was quickly subsided when an error for Coggan saw him drop down the order after a handful of laps.

This promoted race one winner Jack Depper to second. Despite carrying the extra weight, nothing was stopping the Maximum Motorsport driver scything past Wilmot to take the lead. The title protagonist would not let up though, continuing the pressure the young star throughout proceedings.

Coggan had fought back into contention as well, but a retirement for the JM Racing driver on the inside of Coppice brought out the safety car. He was the second of his team to park up that race as team leader Richard Gilbert retired on the second lap.

The restart saw a continuation of the two car battle for the win that had entertained the first half. In a final sprint, Depper held on for his second win in as many races. Wilmot finished second ahead of Team HARD teammate Howard Fuller, who acted as rear gunner for the Scirocco.

In the battle for fourth, fellow title contender Bradley Kent pulled off a dramatic overtake on Martin Depper on the final lap, to crucially take fourth place and bring the fight to the final race.

Paul Ivens completed the finishes for Maximum Motorsport. The result ensures all eyes will be on Wilmot for the crown, as he simply needs to finish to be classified as the champion.
