Finlay’s pace goes unrewarded in British Kart Championships second round at Glan-Y-Gors

The second round of the 2023 Wera Tools British Kart Championships – Rotax at Glan-Y-Gors in Wales, proved to be a character-building weekend for Finlay.

The Dan Holland Driver endured a difficult qualifying session, setting a time that would see him start both heats in 21st position.

Having been unable to get out with the rest of the field during the session, Finlay was unable to get a tow, which was vital to setting a quick time at the Welsh venue.

The Staffordshire-based driver made good progress in the heat races, where he made up five places in heat one to finish in 16th position. Finlay improved upon that in heat two, making up nine places to finish the session in 12th position.

The Maximum Motorsport driver ended Saturday in 12th place in the Intermediate Classification, which is used to set the grid for the PreFinal on Sunday.

Finlay made a good start in the PreFinal, making up three places on the opening lap of the session. The Dan Holland Driver ended the session in 7th place, putting him inside the top 10 for the Final.

As the 15-minute Final got underway, Finlay lost one place on the opening lap.

The Maximum Motorsport driver was running in 12th place on lap five when he had to take avoiding action as teammate Kai Clarke was spun off the track in front of him.

In doing so, Finlay’s DHR kart was beached in the grass, and he was able to go no further.

The Staffordshire-based driver now lies in eighth place in the points standings with three events left to run.
