Finlay Lines wins 2022 British Karting Rookie Title at Whilton Mill

Finlay Lines signed off the final round of the Wera Tools Honda Cadet British Kart Championship in style, as he secured the rookie title with a podium finish at Whilton Mill Karting Club in Northamptonshire.

The ZipKart driver had already enjoyed a great end to round six of the championship on Saturday, where he finished the Final in fifth place, setting him up for an even performance on Sunday for round seven.

With the momentum he carried from round six, Finlay set the second-fastest time in Qualifying to put himself on the front row for both heats. The Maximum Motorsport driver kept a cool head about him as he brought his ZipKart home in third place in heat one, ready to add to his score in heat two.

Heat two proved to be a more challenging affair, however, Finlay made the best of the opportunities and crossed the finish line in fifth place. With the points he scored from both heats, this put the Staffordshire-based driver in fourth place on the grid for the Final.

Finlay made a great start off the line to move up to third place by the first turn before he moved forward and took the lead from Cole Denham on lap three, taking Synergy factory driver Max Endacott with him.

Finlay then stayed out front for the next five laps, before being passed by Max Endacott for the lead, as Kenzo Craigie and eventual champion Cole Denham closed in on them both in the final minutes.

Denham took the race win ahead of Rocco Shenton, with Finlay finishing the race in third place on the road.

Due to a post-race penalty, Finlay was promoted to second place in the final classification, winning the rookie title in the process.

Finishing in sixth place in the end-of-season points standings, Finlay goes into next year, carrying the number six on his kart in all Motorsport UK karting events. As he is now the number six seed driver in the country in the Honda Cadet class.

Finlay sends his thanks to the team for all of their hard work across the three-day event, and also to Neil at IZone Driver Performance, where he has added to his silverware collection once more.

Finlay would like to send his congratulations to Cole Denham, after winning the 2022 Wera Tools Honda Cadet British Kart Championship.
