Lines takes podium finish on Junior X30 debut at Kimbolton
Finlay Lines came away with a podium finish from his debut in the Junior X30 class at round nine of the 2024 Hunts Kart Club Championship
The Synergy Factory driver started from row five for the first heat race of the day, and despite being in a new class, this didn’t faze Lines at all.
Moving forward during the 11-lap heat race, Lines’ efforts were rewarded by taking third position at the final corner on the last lap, using his favourite overtaking place at the Cambridgeshire venue.
Starting from pole position for the second heat of the day, Lines put this to good use, taking the lead into the first corner on the opening lap. Despite losing the lead on the next lap, the Synergy driver stayed in touch with the leader.
Finlay bided his time as he closed the gap back down to the leader, setting consecutive fastest laps. Making his move into the final corner at the end of the penultimate lap, Lines stayed out front to take his first-ever heat race win in the Junior X30 class and set the fastest lap to add to his success.
Lining up on the front row for the Final, the Synergy driver dropped back to fourth place on the opening lap. However, he fought back to take third position at the start of lap two. Not to be denied, Lines made his move for second position on lap five and chased after the leader.
Setting the fastest lap of the day as he closed down the gap, Lines ultimately missed out on the win by just over two-tenths of a second, taking his second place in the final and showing his impressive ability to be able to adapt to the Junior X30 class.
To round off a successful event, Finlay was chosen as the HKRC Torq Racewear Driver of the Day for round nine, where he showcased his mature driving and skilful overtakes. Finlay’s prize is a pair of custom racing gloves supplied by Torq Racewear.
