Race winning pace goes unrewarded for Lines at Whilton Winter Warm Up

It was a case of what might have been for Whilton Mill Karting Club’s reigning champion Finlay Lines last weekend, as he returned to the Northamptonshire venue.

Taking part in the January Winter Warm Up event, Finlay set the fifth fastest time in Qualifying and putting himself on the third row for both of the heat races.

Contact from behind going into the first corner of heat one meant that Lines would drop down to last, leaving him with a fightback on his hands. Finlay didn’t disappoint as he worked his way back up the field, taking an important top-ten finish.

The second heat saw the field start on slicks before the rain arrived, providing a new challenge as everyone tried to make it to the finish. Battling the conditions, Finlay worked hard, starting from fifth place and finishing in seventh position.

Starting the Final from eighth place, Lines progressed forward and was running in fourth place with three laps to go when he was given a Technical Flag. Finlay’s day was done thanks to a sidepod that had worked its way loose due to contact earlier in the race.

Showing front running pace despite the various conditions that were thrown at the track, Finlay was putting in faster laps than the leaders, with a podium finish at least on the cards.
