Finlay Lines claims back-to-back Whilton Mill Kart Club Championship titles
Finlay Lines has successfully retained his Whilton Mill Kart Club Championship title for the second year in a row after a top-ten finish in the final round.
Representing Team UK in the Rotax World Finals in Italy the week before, with the World Final itself taking place on Saturday, meant that the Synergy driver flew back into the UK soon after it finished.
Due to missing qualifying, Finlay would start from the back of the grid in both WMKC heat races on Sunday.
Putting the warm-up to good use on Sunday morning by going seventh fastest, gave Lines the best chance to prepare for the challenge ahead of him.
Competing against 31 other drivers in the Rotax Mini (Inter) field, the Synergy driver made good progress in the opening heat, putting in a supreme class of overtaking skill, making up 19 places to finish in 10th position.
The 2023 WMKC Champion once again underlined his ability at Whilton Mill, as he made up an incredible 23 places in the second heat, finishing in 6th position.
Combining the two heat race scores together meant that Finlay Lines would start from 8th on the grid in the Final. Making a great start, the reigning British Open Champion was up to 3rd place by the end of lap two, after which he began the task of reeling in the front two drivers fighting for the lead.
Setting consecutive fastest laps in the process, Finlay Lines closed the gap to the two leaders at one stage, making it a three-way fight for the lead.
Coming home in the final to take a top-ten finish was enough for Finlay to clinch the 2024 WMKC Championship for the second year in a row, becoming a back-to-back champion.
Taking victory in the final of each round he entered, apart from the season’s final round, showed impressive consistency from Finlay, which added to his title success. His second title win is even more impressive, considering that the Synergy driver was representing Team UK in the Rotax World Final just 24 hours beforehand.
WMKC Title number two adds to a fantastic 2024 Rotax season for Finlay Lines, the reigning British Open Champion, who also finished as vice champion in the 2024 Wera Tools British Karting Championships MiniMax 950 class.
