Finlay battles adversity and shows blistering pace at the FIA European Karting Championship

Finlay Lines delivered a weekend full of determination, speed, and resilience during the latest round of the FIA European Karting Championship in Mülsen, Germany.

Competing in the highly competitive FIA Karting Academy Trophy – Junior class, Finlay faced a number of challenges but demonstrated exceptional pace, especially in the final.

After strong pace in practice and qualifying, Finlay’s chances in the heat races were affected by inconsistent and aggressive driving standards from fellow competitors. Incidents beyond his control compromised his starting positions, ultimately leaving him to line up 11th on the grid for the all-important final.

Despite the setback, Finlay mounted an impressive comeback drive. From the outset of the final, he charged through the field with precision and control, making decisive overtakes to work his way up to P3.

As he closed in on the leaders, Finlay was consistently the fastest driver on the circuit—setting the fastest lap of the race by an astonishing three-tenths of a second.

Just as he was preparing to launch a bid to battle for P2, a series of yellow flags neutralised the race and halted his momentum.

With 8 laps remaining after seeing the green flags for the restart, Finlay was denied the opportunity to challenge for the win after contact during the restart, which dropped him back to P8.

He made a charge forward and finished an impressive P4.

Nevertheless, his performance in Mülsen showcased his raw pace, composure under pressure, and maturity behind the wheel. Finlay’s fastest-lap dominance and intelligent racecraft in the final confirm his growing reputation as one of the standout talents in the championship.

Finlay sends his thanks to MSUK for once again giving him this opportunity and his wingman, Piers Sexton, who undoubtedly contributed to Finlay’s successful week.

“Thanks, Piers, for everything, especially the words of wisdom when the heat races didn’t go our way.”

Finlay and Team UK send their congratulations to Oiva Vettenranta for taking the win in the final.
