Lines beats local lads on home turf to claim Larkhall victory
Finlay Lines claimed victory after winning the final of the second round of the 2024 WSKC West of Scotland Kart Club Championship last weekend.
Racing at Larkhall Circuit on Sunday, the Synergy Kart driver was up against over 20 other drivers in the Rotax Inter class, as he competed north of the border.
With random grid draws determining the grids for each of the three heats, Lines would start heat one from fourteenth place, before making his way forward.
Dealing with mixed conditions on the day, the Staffordshire-based driver finished in second place, however, after the race, Lines was given a 5-second penalty which demoted him to 6th place.
Thanks to the random grid draw for heat two, Lines started in the mid-pack once more, this time lining up in thirteenth place. Keeping his head down, the Synergy Kart driver finished heat two in third place.
In heat three, the Maximum Motorsport driver would start from fourth place and once more pushed hard to make up positions, this time finishing the final heat of the day in second place.
Thanks to the points scored from his three podium finishes during the heat races, Lines would start the all-important final from second place on the grid. Giving him an ideal opportunity to go for the win.
With a local driver on pole position, at the start Lines fell back to fourth place on the opening corner. By the end of lap three Lines had taken the race lead.
Staying out front for the rest of the fourteen-lap race, the Staffordshire-based driver beat the local Scottish kart drivers and took the race win. Lines also set the fastest lap of the day in the final.
The weekend provided Lines the chance to gain valuable practice mileage, before he returns later in the year for the 2024 British Karting Championships round at Larkhall.
