Finlay wins seventh round of Trent Valley Kart Club Championship with last-lap pass
Finlay took victory in round seven of the 2023 Trent Valley Kart Club Championship MiniMax 950 at PF International in Lincolnshire on Sunday, after making a last-lap pass for the lead.
The ZipKart driver set the seventh fastest time in Qualifying on Saturday, out of thirty-five drivers taking part in the event however, he wasn’t happy with the setup on his kart and this was a constant issue across the weekend.
Finlay’s performance in the heats was not a reflection of the pace he normally shows at PFI. Finishing heat one in eighth place and finishing heat two in tenth place.
This left the Maximum Motorsport driver in eighth place in the Intermediate classification.
Between heat two and the final, the team worked tirelessly on a raft of setup changes to Finlay’s kart.
Luckily the setup changes transformed Finlay’s kart, which allowed him to show the raw pace that he had in the Final,
Starting from eighth place on the grid, Finlay flew in the Final and made up seven places, taking the lead on the beginning of the last lap to take victory.
Finlay sends his grateful thanks to his mechanic for the weekend, Ciaran McMahon. For all his support and hard work over the weekend.
It proved to be an extremely challenging weekend for both Finlay and Ciaran, but in the end, they came out on top. Thanks also to the ZipKart Team, including Earl Panagi, Luke Hines and Conor Duncan.
Finlay also sends his thanks to Roger Pitchford and the team at RPM Racing Engines.
