2025 FIA Karting Academy Trophy Finale – Cremona, Italy
“If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver.”
Ayrton Senna.
The final round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy in Cremona was the embodiment of what could have been. Finlay showed good pace throughout the weekend and was in the hunt for the Championship podium right until the Final race.
The weekend started positively in mixed conditions with Finlay qualifying in 5th place during a strange session which saw a late switch to wet tyres at the eleventh hour.
This set the tone for the weekend, where Finlay’s pace guided him to heat finishes of P4 – P2 and P10 in the final heat, which was marred by contact.
Subsequently, Finlay started the final in P6 and on the outside for the all-important start. Getting a clean getaway, Finlay climbed places in the gruelling 21-lap final, eventually leading him to P4 on the final lap.
Spotting a wide gap up the inside, he attempted to make a move for the podium positions, which this time led to contact. An unfortunate way to end a great weekend of racing.
The FIA Karting Academy Trophy is a phenomenal championship and one which Finlay is incredibly grateful to have participated in.
He’d like to thank all those at Motorsport UK for the opportunity and their support in his latest venture, and hopes that the next person to compete representing the United Kingdom does so with the same pride.
Finlay sends his thanks to his mechanic and wingman, Piers Sexton, who has been by his side throughout the season, guiding and supporting Finlay as he took on the best drivers from around the world.
