Lines fights back to take convincing win in Whilton Mill Long Weekender event
Staffordshire-based driver Finlay Lines recovered from an early incident in the final to take the race win.
Beating 33 other drivers competing against him in the Rotax (Inter) kart class.
Racing across three days at the Whilton Mill Kart Club in Northamptonshire, the Synergy Kart Team driver was one to watch as he worked with the random grid positions, he was assigned for all four heat sessions across Friday and Saturday.
Starting from fifth place on the grid for heat one, Finlay made up three places to finish in second place. In heat two, the Maximum Motorsport driver lined up in 18th place and made up a staggering 17 places to win the second heat session.
Lines went one better in heat three, where he would start from 29th on the grid out of 34 drivers, before scything his way through the field to claim his second heat session win of the weekend.
The Synergy driver completed his heat sessions by moving up from 9th on the grid in heat four to take second place at the flag.
Thanks to the points he accumulated from all four heat sessions, Lines had scored enough to line up in pole position for the Pre-Final, where the results of this race would set the grid for the final.
Despite starting from pole position, Lines fell back to finish the Pre-Final in 4th place and this would be where he would start the Final.
Following contact at Chapman’s corner on lap one, Lines fell from 4th position down to 13th place as he regained the track and got going again. Working hard to make his way back up the order, Lines set the fastest lap of the weekend on lap 12 of the 19-lap encounter.
By lap 16, the Synergy driver had taken the lead, making up 12 places and stayed ahead of the chasing pack as he claimed an emphatic win by three-tenths of a second.
