Lines claims podium finish at Kimbolton despite mechanical issues
Finlay Lines fought back to take second place in the final of the 2024 Wera Tools British Kart Championships – Rotax event at Kimbolton, after suffering mechanical issues during the first heat.
Lines set the fourth fastest time out of the twenty-six competitors in the Rotax MiniMax 950 class qualifying on Saturday.
However, in the first heat, whilst supposed to be lining up in fourth place on the grid, a mechanical issue with his kart meant that Lines was unable to take his place.
Having rectified the issue as the rest of the field went racing, Lines fell to the back of the grid. Putting in one of his gritty comeback drives, the Maximum Motorsport driver made his way up the field to finish in 18th place.
Heat two saw Lines start from fourth on the grid, with the front four drivers fighting for the lead straight away. Lines took the lead on lap seven, briefly losing it for one lap.
Regaining the lead one lap later, Lines then went on to claim the heat two win.
With the points scored in both heats’ races added together, this put Lines in seventh place in the Intermediate classification, which is then used to set the Pre-Final grid on Sunday morning.
Dropping to eleventh place in the opening two laps, Lines worked his way forward to finish the twelve-minute plus one lap pre-final in third place, putting him on the second row for the Final.
Lines grabbed the lead of the final in the opening corners as he looked to end the weekend on a high.
Dropping to third place on lap seven, Lines fought back to take second place, finishing the fifteen minutes plus one lap race by claiming the second step of the podium.
