The 2026 Audi Cup welcomes Carl Swift and Area Motorsport as its latest entry
Tin Top racing expert Carl Swift makes the switch to the Audi Cup for 2026, where he will drive for Area Motorsport in the first year of the new series.
With a circuit racing career starting in 2014, following a switch from Autograss racing, Carl moved on to racing in Stock Hatch with the 750 Motor Club, where he finished 1st in his Rookie season and 3rd overall in the drivers’ championship. He has since driven in a variety of championships.
Finishing runner-up in the Civic Cup in his second season as part of the Area Motorsport team, the South Yorkshire-based driver then claimed the 2016 Civic Cup drivers’ title. Moving up to the Creventic 24 Hour Endurance series in 2017, Carl joined TCR UK for its first season in 2018, driving a CUPRA TCR. Carl scored three podium finishes and one victory in TCR UK.
Club Enduro and more Endurance racing was on the menu from 2020, where Carl, with Rob Baker as his teammate, took the CUPRA TCR to three championship wins in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Moving across to the Audi TT Series in 2023, Swift went on to score four race wins out of eight races in the series first year. In 2024, he took the first four race wins of the season before rolling the car at Oulton Park; the championship fight never really recovered from the triple header of non-finishes.
Taking last year out of motor racing to focus on his business commitments, 2026 will see Carl continue with the Rob Baker-led Area Motorsport operation, a tie-up that has taken place across almost all of his career so far, as he enters the Audi Cup.
“I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the Audi Cup. After 12 months away from racing, this felt like the right series to make my return, and I’m excited to be part of it,” said Carl.
“There’s a lot of setup and testing to get through before the season starts, which is all part of the process. I want to make sure the car’s dialled i,n and I’m as sharp as I can be when the lights go out. The hunger’s still there, I just want to get back behind the wheel, get up to speed, and give it everything across all six race weekends.”
Championship Manager Jack Finlan is very happy to see Carl and Area Motorsport announce their entry into the Audi Cup.
“It’s great to see the Audi Cup attract new and talented entries for its first year. I’m delighted to see Carl and Area Motorsport commit to racing in the series. Carl is a very successful driver, and I can’t wait to see what he can do on track in his return after a year away,” explained Jack.
“Seeing more and more drivers signing up to the series from diverse backgrounds shows the attractiveness that the Audi Cup holds, providing a new and affordable series which races on one of the best packages that UK Motorsport has to offer at this time.”
