Tim Docker increases Maximum Motorsport entry to three cars
Maximum Motorsport has announced that the team will enter three cars for this Saturday’s TCR UK meeting at Oulton Park, with Tim Docker’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR joining the pair of CUPRA TCR cars driven by Stewart Lines and Carl Swift.
Docker acquired the Golf GTI from the Motorbase team in May and has been competing with the car in the Britcar Endurance series. A number of strong results, including a class win at the recent Donington Park round, have encouraged Tim to enter the car in TCR UK where, besides his two teammates, he will have the benchmark of the three WestCoast Racing Volkswagen Golfs to aim for this weekend.
The move comes following Maximum Motorsport’s best result so far in TCR UK, when Carl Swift finished third in Race 2 at Castle Combe. It had looked as though the first podium finish for Carl and the team would come at the previous round at Brands Hatch, but damage sustained following contact with another car meant a frustrating retirement for Swift. The result at Castle Combe, however, means confidence is high as the team heads to Oulton Park for the only one-day meeting of the TCR UK calendar.
Tim Docker commented: “I’m pleased to be joining the Maximum Motorsport team at Oulton Park this weekend in the MPS Networks-sponsored Volkswagen Golf we acquired from Motorbase in May. Maximum have run the car for me in two Britcar meetings, at Oulton and then at Donington a couple of weeks ago, and we managed a fourth and a first in class respectively at the two Donington rounds.
“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge of TCR UK as well as meeting up with some of the VW Cup guys I’ve raced with over the past couple of years.”
Stewart Lines added: “I’m personally delighted to see Tim stepping up to TCR UK, as we’ve worked together from when he first took part in a track day to competing in the VW Cup and Britcar. I persuaded him to buy the Golf and he’s already had great value for money from it, so let’s see how he gets on in TCR UK. There are no targets this weekend, it’s purely for Tim to enjoy himself and see how he gets on.”
